Artefact Research

This page sums up my current interest in the Artefact project. Currently, my interest would be around how we communicate with symbols in representation or how we make meaning from symbols. The topic I need further research are,

  • Artefacts : In order to grab an idea around what can be thought of around artefacts or objects.
  • Netsuke : A Japanese toggle I found interesting that could be thought of as a catalyst for qualities to be developed further to my own work.
  • Symbols : When I see the Netsuke, it reminded me of a symbol to represent some further object or ideas and that fascinated me into exploring further into how symbols work. How we see one thing and interpret it into another. Apart from the Netsuke, the research process into the V&A museum also gave me inspiration into telling story about how we perceive an object as an artwork. How the representation such as whether they are in a glass box or lid with beautiful light give its meaning to us. In conclusion, there is a symbol within the object itself, and also symbols around it (its context) that help defines it.
  • Communication : Since communication is still my weakness, I should be able to understand more about how communication works, what defines an audience, and also how I communicate my intentions. Currently my audience would be for people visiting the museum like the V&A.
  • Animation : Documentary documentation in particular, since I would like to communicate my story for this project in a documentative way.
