Today I had a tutorial with Clare and she mentioned about looking at pictures as if looking into windows that bring you to other universe. At first, due to the time limit, I might have given up the idea of the Moon surface I had thought of together with abstract art, but now that she mentioned about this concept, it made me want to strengthen the idea of going to other universes by also incorporate the moon idea, that would give more imagination to the film I suppose.
Besides such notion of metaphor she gave, she also introduced me an astronomer/artist called James Nasmyth who made close-up shots of the moon’s surface back in 1874. By using a telescope, he created large format drawing based on his observations, then made a 3-D plaster models and finally photograph them.

Although his process of producing the picture of the moon surface is not the same as mine which is done to through digital but both ways have an act of drawing and observation involved. It’s interesting to notice how there are many ways to create, present and perceive the concept of the moon from various methods in art and design. I noticed a strong use of light and shadow in his photo and I might also use that in my film to create more believable picture of the moon.
